Woodchester Mansion

Review of income generation generation and marketing approach, both short-term post-pandemic and longer-term to contribute towards conservation plans for the Mansion.

Woodchester Mansion Trust appointed Iridescence to provide consultancy support to develop and promote Woodchester Mansion, a magnificent unfinished Neo-Gothic house located in the National Trust’s Woodchester Park, Gloucestershire. An incredible venue as described on their website:

“Woodchester Mansion represents a moment suspended in history, offering visitors a time-travel experience. Because it was abandoned in mid-construction but with much of its spectacular and painstakingly crafted detail complete, the building is unique in the heritage world as a window on construction methods that link directly to our medieval Gothic heritage. It provides an exceptional experience for visitors, who can walk through and see the naked bones of the construction; a very different involvement to that offered by the usual country house attraction”. Producers of ‘The Crown’ Netflix drama also chose to feature the Mansion as the exterior location for both the Duke of Edinburgh’s and King Charles’ school, Gordonstoun.

We explored a myriad of ways in which the Mansion could develop it income, including programming, catering, retail, venue hire and fundraising and included recommendations to improve the marketing of each of these areas. Following on from this work, Iridescence was reengaged to provide support in delivering the marketing action plan.

Project Objectives:

Identification and evaluation of key income generation areas
Consideration of marketing approach
Delivery of marketing action plan

Finella provided us with an invaluable business review, in a tight timescale. She was easy to work with, listened to stakeholders across the organisation, understood our problems, and delivered a well structured to-the-point report. We are now busy implementing her suggestions.
