Winterbourne Medieval Barn

Principal Involvement :  Feasibility Study, Business Planning

Business plan supporting a £2m capital development project.

The WMB Trust had been very successful in organizing activities and events which attracted up to 4,000 people each year to the site, including open access events such as the annual Medieval Fayre and Orchard Harvest Day, workshops on rural crafts such as Basket Weaving and Dry Stone Walling and cultural events such as Opera and Shakespeare productions. The Trust also secured some venue hire bookings for local community events.

However, Winterbourne Medieval Barn was in very poor condition and plans were undertake to undertake a major restoration project to enable more people to engage with this iconic asset and support its long-term viability. Iridescence was appointed to product an ambitious but realistic plan to scale up the events programme (and financial contribution) and introduce a much increased and more professional venue hire service, including targeting wedding and private party clients and external cultural event organizers to add to the overall visitor offer. Rigorous market and competitor analysis provided an excellent foundation for our financial forecasting and operational planning. Encouraging the Trust to engage external delivery partners (e.g. for wedding catering) was also one of the critical success factors in our modelling.

Project Objectives:

Assess options for income generation
Provide evidence of demand
Develop the business plan to accompany Heritage Lottery Fund bid

Finella worked with Winterbourne Medieval Barn Trust to help us develop a business plan that will enable the site to have a sustainable future whilst still its role as a Heritage and Community Centre.
